How wind damages buildings
Strong winds lift the edges of shingles and break the seal that holds them down, eventually tearing them off. Siding panels and trim are pulled loose. Gutters twist and detach. Flying debris breaks windows and dents surfaces, and falling branches or trees cause direct impact damage. Each of these opens the building to rain.
Wind damage is not always obvious from the ground. A few lifted shingles or a loose flashing strip may not look serious, but they can let water into the attic with every storm that follows. After a significant wind event in Scott Afb, IL, a careful inspection is worth the time.
Securing the building
Our first step after wind damage is closing the openings. We tarp damaged roof sections, board broken windows and secure loose siding or trim that could cause more damage in the next gust. If water has already entered, we extract it and set up drying.
We then inspect the exterior and interior together. Attic spaces are checked for wet insulation and sheathing. Ceilings and walls below damaged areas are checked with moisture meters. This combined inspection shows the full extent of damage, which is important for both repair planning and insurance claims.
Repairing inside and out
Exterior repairs, including roofing, siding, windows, gutters and trim, are completed or coordinated with licensed trades to restore a weathertight envelope. Once the exterior is sealed and interior materials are dry, we repair ceilings, walls, insulation and finishes that were affected by water intrusion.
We document the damage from the wind event through to completion. Photos of exterior damage, interior water intrusion and repairs help adjusters connect the cause to the loss. You receive a clear scope and updates throughout.

What a Scott Afb, IL customer said
